Bio
Amy grew up in South Western Pennsylvania on a dairy farm and now lives in Columbus, Ohio with her family. She has a background in Early Childhood Education and Development and is currently a stay-at-home mom. Amy has loved creating since she was in middle school, but has been pursuing art as a career since 2022.
Artist statement
I work with oil paints, acrylic paints, digital art and colored pencils. I use short brush strokes and pencil marks to convey illustrative and impressionistic styles in the landscapes, interior spaces, and household items I reference. Working in layers of color, starting with more saturated colors and layering with natural earthy colors makes my art textured and dynamic.
My work is heavily influenced by my own upbringing in the country and comparing that to my children growing up in the city. I paint open skies, textured fields, and flowers because my heart misses it for myself and my children. I deeply appreciate what the city has to offer, but grieve what we are missing. There are many depressing differences between life in the country and life in the city, so I tightly hold onto the precious similarities- shared meals, the ways we adorn our homes, personal hobbies, toys we play with, gifts we receive.
My artwork creates a space for my viewers to pause and reflect on how nature and the spaces we live in form our lived experiences. It impacts how we feel and what we think about. My artwork reminds us to be mindful of who and what are in our environments, to breathe deeply, and to open our eyes to the natural beauty in our everyday lives.
